Artist Gerald Haessig has a degree in communications, but after 14 years of working in local TV news, he left the industry to pursue an art career full time. That was in 1999.
An accomplished glass, clay and metal artist Gerald has recieved several Alpha Awards for his work as well as being juried into the American Craft Council's Southeast Regional "spotlight" artist showcases. He has been commissioned to create exclusive jewelry for the Historic New Orleans Coollection, Save Our Cemeteries and the Louisiana Garden Club Federation. He created silver medallions for the Mayor's Arts Award and was asked to submit designs for a new key to the city of New Orleans.
Mr. Haessig's multidisciplinary approach to the decorative arts is to create beautiful works that stand alone in their particular medium or have a common thread carried between them.
In 2015, Mr. Haessig was issued a design patent from the UPTO for Café-ERGO, a line of hand use specific drinking vessels. Your can learn more about them at www.cafe-ergo.com.
Mr. Haessig has appeared on HGTV's Crafters Coast to Coast and has been written up in Studion PMC; a quarterly publication highlighting the technique he developed for fusing pure silver onto raku fired pottery.
He is also a member of the Louisiana Craft Guild, a statewide organization that promotes fine craft by Louisiana artists.
In 2010, he was commissioned by Brock Elememtary School in Slidell Louisiana, to create his signature "Silveramic"tm vessel for First Lady Michelle Obama to commemorated her visit to the school.
